NFL Stadiums

This page is dedicated to NFL Stadium pictures. We will have different pictures and photos from NFL Stadiums that we have attended during the seasons. Right now we have the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, and Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Each set features pictures in and around the stadiums. Just click the links below to view the various Stadiums around the NFL.

Metrodome

On December 20, 1979, construction began on the multipurpose dome stadium. A dome multipurpose stadium was chosen because of the cold weather between fall and spring. Named after former Vice President, Hubert H. Humphrey, the H.H.H. Metrodome, was completed in just over two years. The Minnesota Twins (MLB) played the first game ever at the Metrodome on April 6, 1982.

The Vikings inaugural first game at the Metrodome was on September 12, 1982. Over 64,000 seats in two tiers circle the entire field when the Metrodome is in football configuration. The Metrodome is one of the easiest stadium to be converted from baseball to football. The entire process takes around four hours. A section of 7,600 retractable seats make up the 23 foot high right field wall during a baseball game, but the seats are pulled out allowing the capacity to be increased during football games. The dome at the stadium consists of over ten acres of Teflon-coated fiberglass. It is the only air-supported dome, and fans enter the park through revolving doors that prevent the release of the air that keeps the dome upright. The roof requires 250,000 cubic feet of air pressure per minute to remain inflated. The roof has snow melting ducts to prevent a collapse. However, in the fall of 1982, the dome collapsed, but was re-inflated. Very few changes have taken place at the Metrodome since it opened in 1982. After the 2003 season, the Astroturf field was removed and replaced with Fieldturf.

Reliant Stadium

Home of the Houston Texans, Reliant Stadium was the first of its kind in the NFL, with a retractable roof when it opened in September 2002. The Texans partnered with the Livestock Show and Rodeo in building a stadium. Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new stadium, which was built near the Astrodome, began in early 2000. In October 2000, Reliant Energy purchased the naming rights, thus the facility was named Reliant Stadium.

The Houston Texans played their first regular season game at Reliant Stadium on September 8, 2002 against the Dallas Cowboys. Reliant Stadium has a capacity of around 69,000, in three main tiers of seats that enclose the field. A retractable roof was chosen for the stadium because of the late summer heat and because the stadium will host rodeos, that bring in an annual 2 million people. The roof consists of two sections that meet over the 50 yard line when it is closed. When the roof is open, each section is above the seats in the endzone. Reliant Stadium has many amenities including over 7,000 club seats, 166 luxury suites, club lounges and bars, and a Texans team store. Although it has only been open for several years, Reliant Stadium has already been host to one of the biggest games in football, the 2004 Super Bowl.

Arrowhead Stadium

Arrowhead Stadium remains one of the finest stadiums in the NFL. After more than three years of construction, the stadium was completed in time for the start of the 1972 season. The facility was named Arrowhead Stadium. The Kansas City Chiefs played their first game at Arrowhead Stadium on August 12, 1972 against the St. Louis Cardinals. When the stadium opened it was way ahead of its time. In other cities across the country, multipurpose facilities were being constructed. Over 70,000 red and gold seats in three tiers, enclosed the entire Astroturf playing surface in 1972. Since its opening, Arrowhead Stadium has underwent numerous improvements. In 1984, officials discussed adding a dome to Arrowhead Stadium. However, the idea was scrapped because of project costs. In 1991 a JumboTron was added above the upper deck rim past the south endzone. In 1994, the Astroturf was removed and replaced with grass, giving Arrowhead Stadium its modern day look. Arrowhead Stadium has several amenities, including the Arrowhead Club, over 10,000 club se
